My handyman training began as a child. My father was a handyman himself, working in construction doing many trade skill jobs. He worked from major projects of building homes to minor jobs of home repair and running various cables. From a young age, I would join my father and worked with him on such jobs as he would teach me.
As an adult, I enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. In 2003, I was deployed to Iraq where I received a Purple Heart for being wounded. Part of that injury resulted in me losing my left eye, hence the name and logo for iHandy. Following my time in the military, I worked as a deputy for the Ada County Sheriff’s office for 5 years. After which I resigned as a deputy to be a stay at home parent where I began personal handyman projects at my own home, as well as friends and neighbors. Then in 2016 I decided to create iHandy because what became a thing to do to earn a little side money and fill my time had become a full time job where I was scheduling customers days out and were customers all over the valley.
What I learned in the military and law enforcement are what I believe to be the best attributes of any handyman. The skill of a handyman is not confined to knowing a variety of jobs, but knowing how to see a problem and work through a solution, sometimes in creative ways to achieve the desired result. It’s being committed to finishing a job.
